Writing Realistic Dialogue

15 July, 201426 October, 20145 Comments

Check out 7 Tips for Writing Realistic Dialogue, my guest post at Better Novel Project!

Better Novel Project is a deconstruction project using the Hero’s Journey model (opposed to, say, the 8 C’s method, which I use). Christine is a great resource, and I’m honored to be a guest on her blog! Follow her on Twitter here.

The Quick and Easy Guide to Dashes

My favorite assignment from my Making Comics class was Dadaist collage zines. This one was made by one of my 16yo students! Dadaism was an art and literature movement born out of the chaos of WWI. The Dadaists figured that after their world was shaken by war, nothing made sense, so why not process that absurdity by making nonsense art? “Dada” is a nonsensical sound to represent the meaning from meaningless art.
First mosaic of the year, hopefully not the last.
Free comic book day at the library! We made Once,But,And comics from @meggietheramm, created story spines from Ken Adams, and folded and drew and collaged dozens of zines.

Trying not to cry today. I spilled coffee all over my computer last week and IT doesn’t think it’s salvageable. I couldn’t log into my loaner computer and my projector isn’t working. Pretty crappy birthday so far, but one of my students made me these needle-felted dinosaurs at a birthday party, and they are bringing me joy.
